Chazz Palminteri’s ‘A Bronx Tale’ Sonny Now Full Line
Last year, actor Chazz Palminteri introduced Sonny, a limited-edition release that was part of his ‘A Bronx Tale’ cigar brand. The new size was named after the charismatic, but deadly, mafioso he played in the film. Now, there’s more Sonny for cigar smokers, as Palminteri has expanded it into a full line. Formally known as Chazz Palminteri’s A Bronx Tale Sonny by Epic Cigar, it began shipping to retailers last week.
When comparing the new cigars to the original, there are some differences. The most obvious is that the new cigars are round, whereas the limited edition was box-pressed. The blend is different too, but it’s less obvious. On paper, they both consist of dark, Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper with a Dominican binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers but the leaves used in the new line aren’t as old as those found on the limited edition. The new cigars were blended to be medium-to-full-bodied.
Made in the Dominican Republic at the Charles Fairmorn factory, Sonny is available in four sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 inches by 52 ring gauge ($13.65); Toro, 6 by 54 ($13.85); Torpedo, 6 by 52 ($14.10); and Gordo, 6 by 60 ($14.50). All ship in boxes of 20.
Sonny is one of two regular-production lines for ‘A Bronx Tale,’ following Calogero, named after the film’s protagonist. As for the limited edition, called Chazz Palminteri’s A Bronx Tale Sonny by Epic Cigar Limited Edition Toro, you can still find them for sale. In a blind tasting published in February in Cigar Insider, the limited-edition Sonny Toro “passed the door test” with a score of 91 points.
